Welcome toTheHealthy Initiatives Source
Hello. My name is Darrian Lynch, BSW. I have been an Health Educator for about a total six (6) years and counting. I began my work as a Health Educator in 2014 at a Non-profit Community Based Organization (CBO) called NIA Community Action Center, Inc., where my focus was HIV/AIDS and STD's. I received my Certification for Counseling, Testing, & Referral through Whetstone Consultations and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). I completed my Bachelors of Social Work in 2019 at the illustrious North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. I am now in a mission to complete my Masters of Public Health program at Liberty University, and thereafter, my Masters of Social Work degree and licensure (TBD). "Healthy Initiatives" is a program that I designed and created to inform and persuade readers about the overall spectrum of health, but the main theme and area of focus for this portfolio is "Creating Conversations about HIV."

The primary target audience for Healthy Initiatives program would be for minorities, typically aging between ages 13-55. African American and Latino men and women, specifically for black and Latino gay men, transgenders men and women, and black women are at risk for infectious diseases, including HIV being the most typical. The ultimate goal is to have clients have self-reliance to care for self once provided services, knowledge and education, and information about how to take initiative for one’s own health. These strategies will fully equip clients to successfully care for self. My blog will address the barriers and will provide important information to help change the narrative of HIV and also help encourage and/or create more positive and healthy conversations around the virus. It will also provide healthy techniques and resources to help individuals that may be living with or know someone who does. Doing so with my approach, I believe that we would see dramatic changes, in terms of health communication and intervention. I will be partnering with Correll Mcrae, director from for-non-profit CBO, The ReCODE. This program is where I will be volunteering and plan on completing my internship for graduation requirements for the MPH. Correll is a great mentor to me and our missions are consistent and align with one another and we will both partners together to spread vital health information one day at a time.
